San Diego KOA and National Parks

Kimber

Our next stop with Kamper was in October 2017. It included a 7+ hour drive to San Diego, CA. What I didn't anticipate was a restricted speed in CA of only 55mph. Although I did learn over time that the slower you go, the safer it is, and you get better gas mileage. OH, and tires have speed ratings! Mine were rated for no greater speed than 65mph. That was a shock to me as a new traveling camper.

I signed up for the KOA membership and after reserving our 5 day stay I still saved about $5. This campground is smack dab in the middle of town. If you walked up the hill behind my pup you would find a freeway! This KOA was under renovations at the time in 2017. In the summer of 2018 they opened a state-of-the-art aqua center. I haven't been back to see it, but I saw the plans and the middle stages of construction, and it looked like it would be amazing. Aside from their rinky dink pool they had the coolest amenities. You could rent bikes and sport equipment. They have a huge ramada that was an outdoor kitchen. They also had a "beachside" style cantina. We will go back some day.

While on this trip I learned my love for National Parks. Brooke was in the 4th grade and we got to take advantage of "Every Kid in a Park" free access. Check out the link. https://www.nationalparks.org/our-work/campaigns-initiatives/every-kid-park

We spent the day at Point Loma. It was a beautiful drive, beautiful scenery, and a great history lesson. The only downer was that my mom, who joined us in her own car, was rear ended. I highly recommend a visit to Point Loma.

Point Loma gets 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

San Diego Metro KOA gets 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Loses one 🔥 for road noise and ants.

Have you stay at this KOA? How would you rate it? Any other places we must visit in San Diego?
