Fool Hollow Lake was the site of our first group camping trip and we are looking forward to our third annual trip this summer. We love this campground - it is absolutely beautiful! It is located in the town of Showlow, Arizona. They provide a few tent sites and several sites with water and electric hook-ups. Most of the sites have an excellent, beautiful view of the lake, and an easy walkway down to the lake is not very far away.
There are a lot of things to do...there are walking paths. There are boat docks. At the docks you can rent equipment and buy ice cream! There is fishing, although it's a stocked lake so the fish tend to be small if you are catching from the shore. The families go out in canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks. The kids find places to bike and there are playgrounds too.
The weather can be temperamental. It's too cold for us in the winter - there will be snow possibilities. The summer months are the most popular to visit. In June, it can be a little hot - but if you have air in the trailer, you can find some respite from the afternoon heat. In July, it will cool down, but it cools down because of the Arizona rain. We've gone in July and been rained out. We've gone in June and been a little warm. But it is totally worth it. The kids hop in the lake and swim and have fun in spite of the weather challenges.
One of the drawbacks is that some of the sites are double, which means you might be right beside someone you don't know. So, be careful to either reserve a double with someone you already know, or reserve one of the single sites, or get ready to make a new friend. The sites can be small, but some are nice and large.
The bathrooms are really nice and clean, which is always a bonus. Jennie's tall men don't like to shower in the trailer, so clean and private bathrooms are always a plus.
Overall, this campground is an all-around favorite. It would be a sad summer if we didn't get to visit here, so it earns the five campfire rating from the two of us. Here's the website if you'd like to start your Fool Hollow Adventure.
