How The Smiths Got Started

Jennie

Our three boys tucked in for their first night in the trailer

I grew up in a family where camping was all the vacation we could afford...and I'm talking tents, port-a-potty surrounded by a tarp, getting dirty and smelly kind of camping. I did enjoy our long trip to northern Arizona and Utah one year, but I also remember a pretty gross trip to the middle of nowhere in southern Arizona where I had to use that tarp covered thing my dad called a bathroom. When I got to the teenage years, my mom and I stayed home and had a girl's weekend while the BOYS went camping with dad.

My large, extended family went camping once or twice a year. By this time, my parents had a pop-up and I always stole one of their beds, and that was a bit better. When my husband and I were first married, we branched into the tenting scene, but only went camping with the family. We tried camping a few times when my kids were young and most of those trips turned out soooooo bad! Someone always got sick. My boys would scream and cry at the top of their lungs all night long and I gave up camping for good. For forever.

Fast forward....fifteen years later...I stayed in my brother's hybrid at an event one year, and I supposedly let it slip that I would camp if I had a trailer like that. I have no recollection of ever saying such a thing, but I don't want to call my family a liar. My brother offered me his trailer at a great price and my husband and I decided we would TRY it. We had been at a time share a few years back and he had really wanted to buy in. When I asked him why, he said that he wanted to get away more. I told him we could be intentional about getting away, and then we got a trailer and our adventure began.

It turned into a nearly monthly adventure that we all enjoyed so much. A few months ago, we upgraded our trailer to a 2019 Pacific Coachworks Tango 2610, and our adventures continue!
